The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has reassured the public about the unity and strength of the Labour Party, regardless of the apparent leadership disputes plaguing the party.

The governor, speaking during the flag-off of the 13.9-kilometer Onuinya–Okporoenyi–Oboro Ikwuano road project, linking agrarian communities in Bende and Ikwuano Local Government Areas, disclaimed rumours about the disintegration of the party.

Otti who won his gubernatorial election under the Labour Party platform noted that leadership disputes are most times inevitable in political settings, however, he reassured that the party have come to a logical resolution and has waxed stronger.

The governor also expressed optimism about the 2027 elections not being mindful that the Labour Party did not win any local government council chairman seat in the state.

“There’s nothing to worry about Labour Party. The party is intact. Disagreements happen everywhere, but the key point is reaching a resolution. The party is bigger than any single individual, and I can tell you that LP is now united and stronger,” Otti affirmed.

Speaking about the economic importance of the road project which he came to commission, the governor said it will foster agricultural growth and improve food production in the state.

“The road will connect major cocoa, palm oil, cassava, and rice-producing areas, giving farmers better access to transport their produce to cities for economic gains. No part of Abia will be left behind,” he said.

The commissioner for Works, Otumchere Otti, applauded the governor for being developmental-oriented as opposed to the previous administrations whom he alleged neglected vital projects.

“This road corridor harbours major agrarian communities producing food in commercial quantities. It’s surprising that past governments overlooked it. This project will revitalize the agricultural sector and boost the state economy,” the Commissioner noted.
