Gunmen have attacked and killed two police officers attached to former House of Representatives member Joan Onyemaechi and her driver on Tuesday in Asaba Delta state.
It was gathered that the gunmen had abducted the former rep member from her church when they stormed “King Jesus and I”, located on Ogajifo Street off DSB Road. Before her abduction, two police officers attached to the former lawmaker and her driver we shot.
It was also gathered from the shots fired by the gunmen struck a passerby who was confirmed dead immediately by local residents.
Narrating the manner of the attack, a source stated that the gunmen immediately arriving at the church had shot the police officers attached to the rep and killed the driver. He noted that immediately after killing the victims, the former lawmaker drove away in her SUV.
“The gunmen stormed the church and immediately shot at the police orderlies and the driver. They then drove the lawmaker away in her SUV, firing indiscriminately in the street. Unfortunately, a stray bullet hit a young man, who died on the spot.”
Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Office SP Bright Edafe confirmed the murder but noted only one officer was killed by the gunmen. She explained that the gunmen successfully abducted the former rep member.
“Only a police officer and one other were killed; I do not know if the other was the driver. They took only her.” the PPRO said.
