Following gunmen attack in Anambra state, three officers are presumed dead, the gunmen attacked the police station with bombs.

The incident has been reported to take place on Tuesday morning  at the  Oba, Idemili South local government area and many officers have been left with numerous  injuries. However, the police stated that the thugs had only slain one corporal.

The Oba Civic Centre was also attacked by the secessionist organisation that is known for terrorising the entire Southeast region.  One of the leaders called for a one-month sit-at-home in the area last week in a voicemail posted on social media.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra police public relations officer  confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday in Awka

Ikenga said: “Following, an attack in the early hours of today 3/9/2024 on Oba Police Divisional Headquarters and Oba Civic Cent<re.

“The suspected armed successionist group started shooting sporadically in an attempt to gain entrance to the Police Station and threw petrol bombs at the security facility which made some of the offices catch up with fire including the Oba Civic Center.

“Unfortunately, a police corporal who was fatally wounded paid the supreme price, while the fire was put off with the help of other Police officers on duty and the Joint Security responding team.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, while condemning the act, described the invasion of Security facilities and hostility towards security agents as an attack on the soul of a Nation and vows to bring those behind the unholy act to book.”

Three of their officers had died  in the attack, according to a senior police officer in the state who spoke with press men from The Nation. The source  noted the  attackers to be  members of the secessionist organisation and expressed regret that attacks on police formations have resurfaced in Anambra state.
