The Chairman of the Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Dr Musa Aliyu, has called for a system to build a corporate front against the practice of corruption in Nigeria.
The recent call was made in a statement on Sunday by the Spokesperson for the Commission, Demola Bakare. The statement noted that the commission has put up different measures to tackle the practice of corruption in the country.
The statement disclosed that the commission has called on the Attorneys-General and Commissioners for Justice in the 36 states to an all-important roundtable meeting in Abuja on Monday, where issues regarding the curbing of corrupt practices will be discussed.
According to the spokesperson, the meeting’s theme is “Building a Unified Front Against Corruption in Nigeria,” which was organized by the ICPC with support from the MacArthur Foundation.
He noted that the ICPC has decided to take the initiative to help enhance the practice of fighting corruption across all levels of government in the country.
It was disclosed that the meeting will further strengthen the collaborations between the ICPC and the AGs nationwide to implement the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS).
The statement further disclosed that the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Lateef Fagbemi, will be the special guest, while Kanu Agabi will deliver the keynote address.
The ICPC also disclosed that the former Lagos State AG, Moyosore Onigbanjo, will host a panel discussion. Prof. Abdulkarim Kana of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and Hauwa Abubakar, Attorney-General of Borno State, are other expected high-ranking guests for the programme. a
According to him, other notable contributors include Mr Ekpo Nta, former Chairman of ICPC, and Prof. Mohammed Tabiu of Bayero University, Kano.
He also disclosed that the engagement will seek to identify and address the systemic challenges within the justice system that contribute to corruption, hindering ICPC’s efforts.
“The summit will also develop effective strategies to enhance ICPC’s capacity to prevent corruption, foster stronger understanding between the ICPC and the AGs, and identify specific areas for collaboration between the ICPC and state governments,” he said.
