The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, after the revelation from the Martins Otse, a.k.a. VeryDarkBlackMan has ordered an investigation into the bribery allegations that have circulated within the Nigerian Correctional Service.
In the order, though no specific incidents were mentioned, in a recent revelation, it was revealed that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has confessed that after he was convicted for abuse of the Naira notes his godfather, with other officers and collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, had taken time to a private apartment to serve his jail term.
Bobirisky, in the released audio, noted that when he went to court, he had admitted to committing the crime levelled against him with the expectation he would be asked to pay a fine with a fine or community service. Still, he was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison.
He explained that when he was on his way to prison, one of the godfathers called and noted that he wouldn’t be taken to the prison with a different arrangement made in a private apartment in the capital city to ensure he had a comfortable environment to stay for six months. The godfather, according to him, was making arrangements with the Comptroller General of Prisons in Abuja to get the apartment ready.
The statement noted that the Minister of Interior has directed an unconditional and comprehensive investigation into the allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The statement further estabsihed that the ministry would not tolerate any act of compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. Assuring that the ministyrwold not leave any stone unturned in an effort to bring all the persons fingierd in the investigation to justice.
The statement also disclosed that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani, has been appointed by the minister to head the investigation team to probe the allegations. He also charged them to conclude the investigations and submit their reports,
The statement concluded by noting that the minister assures the public of a comprehensive investigation into the allegation. He noted that there should be a rigorous, transparent, and impartial probe with adequate punishments given to all the persons involved.
Earlier, after the revelation of the audio, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, took to his Instagram page to deny the audio. He noted that it was a false allegation, noting that he had spent all six months in Kuje prison. Other individuals fingered in the allegations were human right lawyer, Femi Falana and son Flaz the Bahd Guy.
