The Kaduna State government has announced the full relaxation of the curfew imposed in the state due to the breakdown of law and order resulting from the hunger protest that began on August 1, 2023. The curfew, which lasted from 6 pm to 8 pm, was imposed on the Kaduna metropolis and Zaria.
Effective Tuesday, the state government announced that the curfew was no longer in the affected areas.
The recent decision was announced by the commissioner Overseeing Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, on Tuesday morning in the state.
He explained that the recent decision was taken after an extensive review of the security situation in the state, especially in the Kaduna metropolis and Zaria. He noted that the governor of the state, Uba Sani, has granted the removal of the curfew.
According to the statement, he noted that removal takes immediate effect from Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Before the total removal of the curfew, the state security council had relaxed the curfew, which was initially imposed for 24 hours in the state.
While speaking on the full lifting of the curfew, Aruwan explained that the decision to review the curfew was after the state government had reviewed the entire security situation in the state. He went on to advise citizens of the state who are law-abiding to resume their daily activities with any firm if restricted in time.
The statement went on to warn the public to stay away from any form of public gathering and procession in the state. He noted any such events must be approved by the government and urged the residents to seek approval before embarking on such events to prevent any disruption of public order.
He highlighted that the state security agencies will continue to be vigilant and use the law against any individual or group of persons who act contrary to the state’s directive and threaten the peace and stability of the entire state.
The statement added that the government has promised to be committed to inclusivity in governance in the state while establishing that the government will continue to have discussions and dialogue with all critical stakeholders in the state to ensure adequate peace for all individuals and the safety of all properties.
Kaduna state was one of the most hit states during the end of bad governance protest that started in the country on the first of August.
During the protest, the citizens witnessed different clashes with security agencies that led to the deaths of different citizens in the state. Also, security agencies in the state clashed with some special needs individuals who approved the government house gate during the protest.
Kaduna state was one of the states in the Northern part of the country where citizens were seen waving the Russian Flag and calling for the Russian president to come to the rescue of the country.
The highlight of the protest was a soldier shooting a teenager in the state, which led to the death of the child who, according to his father, was still in secondary school. The army responded and noted the soldier in question had been arrested, and investigations were ongoing.
