The Police in Kenya have announced a cash reward for any individual who provides credible information, which will lead to the arrest of a suspected killer who had escaped from police custody in the country.
The police started a hunt for the suspect on Tuesday. The suspect, named Collins Jumaisi, has been accused of killing dozens of women in the country. He broke out of police custody, which was located in the upmarket area in the capital of Kenya. He left custody with 12 other people who are believed to be his Eritreans.
On Wednesday, five police officers were taken to court. The officers were suspected of having aided the suspects’ escape. The court released the officers after a 200,000 Kenyan shilling ($1,500) bond. The prosecutor had urged the court to keep the suspects in court for the next 14 days.
The suspected killer several times spoke ills of the police and was arrested in July after he allegedly killed a mutilated female body in a rubbish dump in the Mukuru slum area in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
They have disclosed that the suspect had confessed to killing 42 women over a period of two years from 2022; he had confirmed to the police that his wife was the first victim. The suspect had alleged that he was beaten after he was arrested by the police for the offence.
Speaking on the escape, the police noted that the suspect and his men went out, cutting through the wire mesh roof where the criminals were he was held.
The police disclosed that a significant amount of money would be given to any individual who provided credible information that led to the arrest of the suspect; the police did not specify the amount.
The suspect’s escape marks the second time such a high-profile case has happened in Nairobi.
