A 23-year-old philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ayomide Adeleye, killed an 18-year-old female church member, Christiana Idowu. Has disclosed why he went into the act of committing the murder.
He noted that he had killed the victim because of the financial problems he had; he went on to describe the incidents that led to killing the victim after he was taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command Tactical Unit in Ikeja.
The killing of the victim took place when she visited the residence of the suspect after she had embarked on her Industrial Training student at Yaba College of Technology. It was noted that the victim had gone to the house of the suspect.
He explained that the victim had visited his house at about 5 pm on the day of the incident and requested the repair of her phone. While speaking on the incidents, the suspect noted that she had grabbed her and applied pressure. The victim stated that she struggled but could not shout because she was suppressed already. She gave up after struggling for a long time.
Speaking on his move to decompose the body, he noted that he embarked on it in order to extort money from the mother of the victim. The suspect confessed that after killing the victim, he started digging a shallow grave behind where he stayed and went on to decompose the body in the early hours of the morning. He noted that he had continued digging the grave the second day after starting the process on the day the victim was killed. He noted that he was not able to sleep all night after the incident happened.
After the death of the victim, the suspect, Adeleye, noted that he had contacted the mother of the victim for ransom, telling her that she was in custody. After several years, it was explained that the suspect had successfully taken N360,000 from the grieving mother.
He noted that before demanding the three million from the mother, he was aware that the mother would not be able to raise such amount but had to go on to ask for the amount, according to him he was ready to take any amount made available by the mother of the victim because he was desperately in need of money.
He noted that the mother had negotiated and agreed to pay N350,000.00. He disclosed that he had sent them a sporty bet account to pay the money in order to avoid being traced. He also noted that he had told the mother to pay another N110,000, and the mother, he said, had complied that she had just left that said amount.
He noted that he was traced after he had uploaded his national identification number to his sporty bet account. He explained that if had fiaild to link the account it would just be an empty account. He noted that his attempt to cover his tracks ultimately led to his arrest.
He noted that immediately he likend the account, all his identity, location, and address were visible. He also disclosed that the phone of the victim was also with him, which could have been used to trace him.
The suspect expressed regret over his actions, noting that the victim was close to his mum. Adeyeye noted that he doesn’t deserve any mercy for what he has done. He went on to ask God to forgive him saying that what he did was totally wrong and he regret it.
