The Kwara State House of Assembly approved the state government’s NN509.8 billion Supplementary Appropriations Budget on Thursday.
During the Thursday plenary, the Committee of Supply reviewed, approved, and presented the budget.
The House Committee on Finance and Appropriations Chairperson, Arinola Lawal, representing the Ilorin East Constituency, indicated during the report’s reading that the funds will be utilised for capital projects and the completion of both new and ongoing infrastructure projects throughout the state.
Nonetheless, Lawal pleaded with her Assembly colleagues to back the approval of the supplemental budget for state development.
Following a voice vote by the majority of legislators endorsing the supplemental budget, Speaker Yakubu Danlad-Salihu declared its adoption.
Next, he gave the Assembly Clerk instructions to make a clean copy of the bill for the governor to sign.
Recall that on July 23, 2024, the state’s governor, Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq, sent a bill to the state House of Assembly asking for approval to amend the state’s Supplementary Estimate by N201 billion.
Although the governor did not give a rationale for the supplemental budget in his letter to the assembly, it was assumed that the cause had something to do with the Federal Government’s recent adoption of a new minimum salary of N70,000.
