An anonymous female protester who took to the streets of Lagos on Friday with an empty pot and a message of sorrow for the hunger in the country has received gifts of cash from kind-hearted Nigerians.

The woman, seen on Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja, shouted, “Ebi o! Ebi o! (Hunger o! Hunger o!)” and pleaded with the government to help the impoverished Nigerians and boost the country’s economy.

A sizable audience attended the demonstration, which is a part of a larger movement throughout Nigeria, to express their displeasure with the state of the economy and governmental policies.

The demonstrators, who were organised by a number of organisations such as Revolution Now, Concerned Nigerians, and the Take It Back Movement, are calling for a shift in governmental practices as well as an end to suffering and corruption in the government.

A large number of demonstrators, who are battling unemployment, inflation, and unstable economic conditions, were moved by the woman’s empty pot, which is a representation of hunger and suffering.

Lagos residents were calling for improved accountability and governance from the nation’s authorities at one of several protests that were taking place around the country.

Speaking to an anonymous interviewer, the woman revealed in a widely shared video on X that she could hardly afford to eat one meal a day.

Speaking in Yoruba, she said, “I can barely afford to eat once a day. The hunger has become too much. It is unbearable. My children are suffering. There is no money in my pocket. Does this government want to kill us? Overthinking wants to kill me. I can no longer survive. It is too much for me to bear. The government should come to my aid.”

Several Nigerians responded to her cry by offering her money, afrobeat musician Oxlade announced that he will give the woman N500,000 to start the donations.

Oxlade declared his plan to pay her N500,000 when he posted a picture of her on X, the former Twitter.
