The police in Bauchi State have confirmed the arrest of one individual suspected to be responsible for the death of an eight-year-old boy named Kamal Aliyu in the Rinjin Gani of Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Thursday and made available to a journalist.
He narrated that on the 4th of August, a report was submitted at the site that some unknown individuals in the state kidnapped Kamal Aliyu after the incident had happened. At he Rinjin Gani village in Toro LGA of Bauchi state. The PPRO noted that in response to the report, the Division Police Officer, DPO of Toro Police Divisional headquarters, started investigating the incident.
According to him, an intelligence form and a tip-off on August 15th 2024, helped the Divisional Police Officer to arrest one Mohamed Liman, a 23-year-old who has been a resident of the Rinjin Gani community for years. He was also known to the family of the abducted Kamal.
He further disclosed that the suspect, who was interrogated by the police, had confessed to committing the offences. According to him, the suspect had committed the crime by aligning with another individual in the community. He noted that the other individual had deceived the little Kamal into delivering a message to his father, Alhaji Ali Rinji. The identity of the second suspect is still unknown, he said.
They stated the suspect had confessed to abducting the 8-year-old boy and taking hi into the nearby bush. The young boy was then killed and buried in a small dug grave.
Before killing the boy, the suspect disclosed that they had demanded the father of the little boy pay a ransom of N200,000. The father complied and dumped the money at the agreed area. The PPRO disclosed that the suspects could not retrieve the money because of the heavy security presence in the area where the cash was dumped.
The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where a discrete investigation will be carried out as directed by the state police commissioner, Auwal Musa Mohammed
