The Anti-Corruption Agency of Oyo state has confirmed the conviction of one local government staff for the illegal sale of a portion of land belonging to the government to a private individual.

The statement released on Thursday and signed by the agency’s Executive Secretary, I.O. Tijani, on behalf of the Chairman of OYACA, Justice Eni Esan (retd), stated that the portion of land belongs to the state housing corporation.

Before his conviction, the convict, Adesina Olanrewaju Oyegoke, was an assistant chief executive officer with the Estate Department of Lagelu Local Government, Ibadan. The convict will spend the next three months in prison.

The offender was charged with three counts of official corruption under the OYACA Law 2019.

While delivering the judgement on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Magistrate O.A Akande (SMI), who presided over the case at the court Iyaganku, the court found Oyegoke stated that the accused was guilty of the offences brought before him and therefore sentenced to three months in jail.

The statement further stated that all civil servants are warned to stay away from any act of corruption, which will cause the state a setback that causes underdevelopment, further destroying the good image of the state, which has been known before.

The agency’s Executive Secretary, I.O. Tijani, further called on all civil servants to imbibe a good attitude and avoid corruption at all costs.
