The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has disclosed that the command has secured multiple convictions of suspects taken to court in the state in the state.
The convictions were announced in a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano State Command, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, on Thursday in the state.
He noted that the success has shown that the Agency’s recent convictions demonstrate its unwavering commitment to the rule of law and a strict zero-tolerance policy towards drug offences. The statement further noted that convictions had demonstrated the agency’s efforts to get society rid of drug traffickers.
Another individual who was sentenced was Ames Temitope Ajayi, a 40-year-old man who was said to be an ex-convict and notorious distributor of Cannabis Sativa. He was sent to the provision for seven years; his offences included trafficking illicit substances. The statement noted that his conviction was a big win for the agency because of the history of cross-regional drug trafficking carried out by the individual.
Maigatari noted that the conviction of the individuals has halted a drug distribution chain in the state and another part of the country, which will further help in the protection of communities from the dangers involved in the consumption of illicit drugs.
He also noted that the agency has continued to try to disrupt the chains involved in the distribution of drugs in the country, which he noted have been behind the destruction of communities in the country.
The statement also revealed that two other convicts named Adekunle Sunday Adebayo, 40, and Yahaya Mamuda, 35, were sent to prison for six years each for drug-related offences.
According to the Agency, it was ruled that none of the convicts would be getting an option of fine, which would send a bigger message to other offenders or individuals who intend to commit such crimes; it was also noted that the seriousness of the offences has necessitated the decision.
The PRO noted that the justice served in the cases has shown that crime does not pay in any way; he further noted that by holding offenders accountable for their actions, Justice Shuaibu is contributing to a safer, more just society.
The statement noted that the State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr CN AI Ahmad, commended the support of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.). It was noted that the backing of Barwa has been a force in the achievements recorded in the state, he also appreciated the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the effort he has shown in not accepting any form of drug dealings in the state.
The Commander also appreciated the critical roles that Justice Shuaibu and the Command’s prosecution and legal services unit played in the achievement. He noted that the NDLEA will continue to be steadfast and committed to upholding the law and ensuring a drug-free society.
