In response to Senator Dino Melaye’s recent statement which he claimed the party is dead, the People Democratic Party’s Kogi State chapter has authorised the local executive committee in Ijumu to begin urgent suspension proceedings against him.
In a statement released on Sunday to the press in Lokoja, the party’s elders, headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo, said that Dino’s suspension was necessary to restore the party’s integrity and focus on credible leadership.
“Melaye’s political ambitions have crumbled to the point where he can no longer secure even a local councilor position.
“Senator Melaye has become a burden to the party. His accusations against the current leadership are hypocritical, as he himself was granted a governorship ticket despite the party’s awareness of his inability to win even a primary election.”
The Kogi PDP apportioned blames on Melaye for the party’s current problems, noting that his nomination was a huge mistake that resulted in the party’s current situation.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa were urged to reconsider their support for Melaye and cut their association with someone they referred to as a “bondage” and a “big-time liability” to the party.
