The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed and condemned the killing of one of its men, Halliru Liman, by military personnel in the state.
The incident was confirmed in a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, on Thursday in the state capital. The statement noted that the police officer was, until his murder, the DPO in charge of Wasagu Division in Kebbi state.
The statement noted that the police officer was shot in the head by the leader of the military personnel stationed on the road. The leader displayed a high level of aggression against the police DPO. Hassan allegedly shot the officer in the head, which resulted in serious injury that led to his death. The police explained that the police officer was killed on the spot after he made several attempts to identify himself to the military personnel.
The PPRO disclosed that the incident took place at about 10:3o am on August 28, 2024. While condemning the attack the police noted that the incident was unacceptable and allerrming.
The police disclosed that the action was a high level of violation of the rules of engagement and the principles of inter-agency cooperation. They called for a discreet investigation into the incident that led to the death of the officer with a view of bringing all those responsible to justice.
The police command stated that for sustained peace around the country, different agencies, such as the police and the military, will work together without engaging in any form of violence, which will create a high level of fear in the minds of the residents. The police command extended its sympathy to the family of the late DPO, promising that an investigation would be carried out to deliver justice to the victim.
