It was learnt that the Ogun State Police Command has started an investigation into the incident, which has been investigated as premeditated murder. The incident was reported to the police by the father, Shamsuddeen, on August 31, 2024, to the Kemta Police Division.
A major event that led to the disappearance of the victim took place on August 30, 2024, when the victim, named Akinsanya, left the house of the father to assist her sister, who is a businesswoman and operates a Point of Sale business in the Kemta area. Upon her arrival, Onyeka reportedly approved her.
Onyeka has been a worker for the father of the victim and has been identified as the prime suspect by the police in the case. He had, according to reports, told the victim that the mother needed her service at the farm where the cassava harvest was ongoing.
The situation created a heavy case of worry in the minds of the family members, which resulted in a high level of fear in the minds of the people. Her presence had disappeared from the house, the shop, and the farm, which prompted the father to report the case to the police in Kemta Police Division.
The police explained that the father reported that the father had grown worried after the lady was not found either in the shop or the house after she indicated her desire to leave to help the sister’s business in the shop. The shop was located at Mile 6, Ajebo Road.
It was further explained that the case does not look like a kidnapping incident. The police suggested that it was a premeditated murder despite remaining unclear the motive behind the murder of the teenager. A further explanation shows that the victim was not forcefully abducted by anyone, but she was decided by the conspirators under the guise of going to help the mother on the farm.
It was also reported that the victim’s father had confirmed to the police that he had received a call from an unknown number requesting a specific amount of money. In an effort to apprehend the person, the police tracked his location to Oke Egunya, Totoro, for hours. After several attempts, the exercise was futile until the body of the girl was discovered inside the farm.
The police command, through its spokesperson Omolola Odutola, noted that the police have started an investigation into the incident to uncover the circumstances that have led to the death of the girl. She explained that police officers have been deployed to arrest all the suspects identified.
She noted that Onyeka had been identified as the prime suspect in the case, and a manhunt by the police had started; she confirmed that the suspect had fled.
