The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, Bauchi State office, has announced that it has begun an exercise in the state to remove fake Milo chocolate drinks from the market that have been in circulation.
The exercise was announced by the Bauchi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Dr Paul Kamai in an interview with newsmen in the state on Tuesday.
The coordinator noted that the market inspection would take place in superstores with the intention of getting rid of fake Milo chocolates currently in circulation. The coordinator further noted that the exercise began with a directive from the headquarters to get rid of harmful products in circulation.
The director also disclosed that NAFDAC has planned a sensitization meeting with the members and leadership of the association of Agro chemical dealers on the dangers that are involved the in the storage of chemicals in food in the same place; he noted that the meeting will take place before the end of the week in the state.
He further noted that the meeting was very important because farmers in the state are getting closer to the harvest period, when crops will be taken for consumption, he noted that the meeting will specifically discourage farmers against the use of Dictholoruvis and Paraquat chemicals in the storage of food items.
He further explained that the chemicals were very dangerous and had been banned by the government for a long.
Kamai advised the operators of bakeries and water producers in the state to review their operational licenses in the stipulated time of two years, he noted that business owners that fail to renew theirs will attract actions that will delay the operation of their business.
He further charged the owners of small and medium enterprises to document their business operations with the NAFDAC before sending their products into the markets in the country.
