After the alleged killing of six #EndBadGovernance protesters in Niger state, the Suleja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association has vowed to take legal action against the security agencies in the state.
The NBA condemned the actions of the security agencies and said that they had violated citizens’ right to voice their displeasure through protest.
Abdullahi Liman the Chairman of the Suleja branch of the association, paid a condolence visit to the residence of the protesters who was murderd during the exercise, he visited the residence deceased, Yahaya Isah, to gatherreliable information for further actions by the organization.
It was also confirmed that the Association had established a monitoring committee to monitor such incidents and work towards their non-occurrence during the process.
He further explained that the national level of the NBA has also communicated with the branches to constitute monitoring committees in respect of the protest to collect data regarding all the happening that need legal attention.
Speaking after visiting one of the deceased houses, he noted that the organization is to curb every form of speculation to address every regarding the protest holistically.
He noted that the police had not confirmed the killings, but his visit to the residence of Yahaya showed that he was killed during the Thursday protest in Mina.
On Thursday, during the first day of the protest, some of the protesters attempted to break into the Suleja police station, which prompted the police to repel them by throwing tear gas. It was explained that when they persisted, the police opened fire, killing four of the protesters on the spot while two others were taken to the hospital.
Nigerians are currently protesting the bad governance in the country. The protest has led to the loss of lives in the country, with over twenty persons confirmed dead already. The nation’s capital Lagos, has seen thousands of residents on the streets, while more casualties have been recorded in the northern part of the country.
