The controversial senator representing Borno South at the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, has rejected the new office allocated to him by the Senate Services Committee after a recent incident led to his removal as the Whip of the 10th Assembly.
It was learnt that, according to parliament practices, the Borno state governor will be relocated to a new office after his removal from the office of the chief whip.
In a recent communication with the controversial senator, the committee had asked the sacked chief whip to move to the third floor so that the new Senate whip, Senator Tahiir Mongonu, could take his office.
Arguing about the new office allocated, the senator noted that the allocated office betrays his rank as a senior in the assembly, stating offices in the assembly are allocated based on seniority.
In a letter signed by his Confidential Secretary, Shuaibu Gawu, and addressed to the committee addressed to the Senate Services Committee chairman, Senator Sunday Karimi, on Tuesday, he noted the senior had rejected the allocation of the office by the committee.
The letter noted that the senior who stands after Ahmed Lawan, the immediate former senate president, should be allocated an office on the fourth floor of the assembly complex. He further established that all prior offices are allocated on a seniority basis.
Before the current incident, the All Progressive Senitor was stripped of his position as the chief whip of the senate after a letter co-signed by the Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, was sent to the senate before the assembly embarked on a recess.
The sack of Udume was processed after the senator publicly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that some individuals in the country have changed the country’s leader, noting that individuals with the truth about the happening in the country have prevented from gaining entrance to speak with the president.
He further claimed that the unavailability of the president has prevented him from having discussions about the state of hunger in the country.
The recent removal has made Ndume the senate committee chairman of tourism, a position the former state chief whip has rejected. He was to be assisted by Anthony Ane (APC, Ebonyi), and the new appointment was announced by the senate president Godswill Akpabio.
The removal of Ndume further made changes to different communities in the upper chamber, the new Chief Whip Mr Monguno was made the deputy chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, which has been the tradition upper house of the National Assembly.
In the changes, Adeniyi Adegbomire (APC, Ondo Central). Mr Adegbomire is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was appointed the head of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters chaired by Mr Monguno before his new position.
In the past, senior senator Ndume was stripped of their positions; in 2013, the senior who was elected from the Peoples Democratic Party was stripped of being the senate leader after his defection to the APC.
