The National Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the delivery of 1,528.2 Metric tonnes of assorted grains to support the locals in the state.
The agency confirmed the delivery in a statement made on Monday. The statement noted that President Bola Tinubu approved the distribution and that it will be managed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. The food items will be distributed among vulnerable persons across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The statement further noted that the distribution will be from the 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities in the National Strategic Reserve.
In a detailed explanation of the content of the delivered product, NEMA noted that the products include 594 metric tons (11,880 bags) of maize, 691.2 metric tons (13,824 bags) of sorghum, and 243 metric tons (4,860 bags) of millet the statement further confirmed that the products would be distributed equally to the local governments in the state.
The federal government, in two separate pledges in February and May, noted that it would distribute 2,000 metric tonnes of grains for free to residents in the country; the effort was noted to help cushion the impact of hunger and the high cost of food processing presently experienced in the country.
Earlier in March 2024, the federal government confirmed that some portion of the grains had been delivered to Kano, Kwara, Kogi, Ebonyi, Adamawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Taraba.
Earlier in August residents took the streets in protest of hunger and bad governance, the residents have complained of the rising cost of living in the country.
