The Nigerian military has announced the elimination of 108 terrorists in a week, while 214 kidnapped hostages have been rescued in the week under review.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, announced the figures in a public statement on Friday.
Giving details about the operations of the exercises, Buba explained that the troops apprehended 204 individuals that are suspected to be terrorist and other criminal elements, 66 weapons of different kinds were recovered during the exercise, ammunition comprising one Dushku, one MG, two GPMGs, one RPG launcher, one RPG bomb, one AK56 rifle and 37 AK47 rifles.
He also noted that other weapons were four MRAPs, two GTs, three fabricated rifles, six Dane guns, three locally made pistols, six magazines, one bandolier and two HH radios.
He listed other weapons recovered from the operation as 13 rounds of 7.62mm PKT, 2,362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 699 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 201 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm and 503 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm.
The brave troops during the operation also recovered nine live cartridges, one belted of NATO ammo, 19 vehicles, 44 motorcycles, three mobile phones and the sum of N4.9 million, amongst other items.
The troops under Operation Hadin Kaiin in the Northeast, according to Buba in the statement, explained that 18 suspects and rescued 130 kidnappers’ hostages as well as recovered a cache of arms.
While providing statistics on the number of persons arrested, he noted that 622 terrorists, comprising 90 adult males, 182 adult females, and 350 children, all surrendered to the troops in one week.
After the attack, the area, according to him, was attacked with rockets and bombs, and the assessment of the area after the operation showed that so many terrorists were eliminated, and a heavy casualty was recorded on the side of the terrorists.
While conducting operations in the North Central, the troops of Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke successfully neutralised 13 insurgents, rescued 36 kidnapped victims, and arrested 57 extremists that have shown violence.
The operatives in the North West under Operation Hadarin Daji successfully neutralised 15 terrorists, arrested 22 terrorists and freed 27 kidnapped hostages across different states of Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
The air components Operation Hadarin Daji attacked the camp of a suspected terrorist kingpin, Kamilu Burazu, in Danmusa and Batsari Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
An assessment of the area showed that some terrorists were neutralized during the operation. He mentioned that their logistics were also destroyed.
Troops of Operation Whirl Punch, according to Buba, killed eight terrorists and arrested 22 suspects during the operation of 12 individuals in Niger, Kaduna and Kogi States.
In Kaduna, the camp of a terrorist kingpin, Buhari, was destroyed in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, with several terrorists eliminated.
Under Operation Delta Safe’s auspices, the troops recovered 1.13 million litres of stolen crude oil, 228,770 litres of illegally refined AGO, 100 litres of DPK, and 20,000 litres of PMS in the South-South of the country.
Other activities of the troops in the area include the discovery and destruction of 487 dugout pits, 32 boats and 12 storage tanks, 71 cooking ovens, two speedboats, two pumping machines, and two HH radios.
Nine vehicles, 32 motorcycles, one tricycle, and one wheelbarrow were recovered, and 76 illegal refining sites were destroyed.
The troops rescued five individuals kidnapped, while 32 suspects were arrested for oil theft and other violent extremist conduct, different.
The South East the troops who have been operating under the Operation UDO KA killed five terrorost and arrested 12 other individuals, a total of four kidnapped victims were rescued in the week in the region.
Buba explained that all the items and suspects arrested have been handed over to all concerned authorities for further investigation and action.
