On Wednesday, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission invited the former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, for questioning for allegations of contract irregularities and job racketeering at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund during his time as the minister.
The anti-corruption agency had previously invited some staff and officials of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund to question them about an allegation of misappropriation of N47m gratuity paid to the immediate past Managing Director, Mrs Maureen Allagoa, while in active service.
It was learned that the minister had spent over five hours at the commission office on Wednesday, where he was questioned on several issues relating to the allegations.
A source in the agency explained that the former mister was invited, and he arrived on Wednesday. The source further noted that the former minister was released Wednesday night after several long hours of questioning.
The source disclosed that the former governor would have arrived at the office earlier Nigige had told them he was outside the country. The source disclosed that the former mister was grilled on issues relating to award of contracts and job racketeering. The agency, according to the source, had asked him questions about the e-NSITF, which the federal executive council had approved.
When contacted, the spokesperson of ICPC confirmed the former governor’s invitation, explaining that he was released after a series of questions from the investigation team.
He noted that the minister was interrogated on issues that concerned him but was asked to go after the exercise.
