Concerned Northern Youths, a coalition of students, has withdrawn from the planned statewide protests against the nation’s current economic woes, claiming that the actions’ sponsors and motivations are unknown.
The Coalition instructed its members not to take part in the major actions planned for the end of the month, following a decision made during a meeting in Kano.
“Students, whose faith is always in jeopardy in the context of mass actions, you should not blindly join what will further jeopardize your studies,” the group declared.
Speaking to reporters, Jibril Sani Bello Gama, the Coalition’s National Coordinator, stated that they would not participate in the protests since they were unaware of the organizers’ identities and motivations.
“Dear Students and Youths, I strongly urge you to refrain from participating in the upcoming nationwide planned protests. The organizers of these protests are unknown, and we are uncertain whether their intentions are peaceful or violent.
“Your safety and well-being are our top priority. We understand the economic hardship in Nigeria, but as students, your future is paramount.
“This administration has shown consideration for students by making educational loans available without interest, ensuring that you can focus on your studies now and secure jobs in the future to repay these loans.
“Let’s prioritize our education and future success,” Gama said.
Recall that a number of organizations have sent out notices to Nigerians advising them to get ready for a mass protest that would take place throughout the country to express disapproval of the government for what they see as its callous handling of the country’s ongoing issues with hunger, poverty, and insecurity.
