The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ondo State has announced the arrest of three individuals for a suspected case of armoured cable theft in the state.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Daniel Aidamenbor, made the arrest public in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Akure. The PRO noted that suspects Modashiru Nasiru, 18, and Hassan Yaya, 19, were arrested by the command men on August 13 while undergoing some mining activities in the Oke-Igbo, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo areas of the state. He noted that the activities were illegal.

The statement explained that the third person, Aloa Segun, was arrested by the command for an alleged case of armoured cable theft in the state.

The statement further noted that the items recovered from the suspected include armoured cables, recline cables and a generator, which have been valued at about N3.3m. He explained that recovery was possible after a desperate investigation carried out by the command.

Aidamenbor further noted that the command was still carrying out further investigations to arrest other members of the gang. For the past months, the Oke-Igbo, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo areas have been known to witness illegal activities in the state, which has caused environmental problems for the community.
