The police in Kaduna State have announced the arrest of 11 persons suspected to be kidnappers while a large cache of arms and a huge sum of money were recovered from them.
The arrest was announced on Thursday in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mansir Hassan. He noted that the arrested persons were linked to the kidnap of a district head, which took place on 14 August 2024 but released after two days in captivity. According to the statement, the raided villages are Maraban Wasa, Gurzan Hakimi Mariri, and Abugan Kurama.
In another operation, the PPRO disclosed that the troops, in collaboration with local hunters in the community, raided the villages in the Lere Local Government Area. According to him, the raid led to the arrest of five suspects, Abdulhamid Abubakar (alias Bala, 30), Danjuma Luka (alias Uba, 25), Ayuba Simon (50), and Idi Saleh (57).
In the operation, the police recovered a fabricated single-barrel gun, a green Golf car, a Bajaj motorcycle, and eight mobile phones, which were used by the suspects in the operations.
In a separate operation on the 2nd of September, the officers of the police arrested six additional suspects who provided their names as Lawal Murtala, Isa Kabiru, Auwal Surajo, Kamala Lawal, Umar Adamu, and Kabiru Liman, at a motor park in the state.
Upon their arrest, four fabricated AK-47 rifles, two English pistols, two pump-action guns, and a significant sum of money were recovered from them.
The police in the state also, on 3 September 2024, received information about a suspected bandit staying in a hotel in the Tafa area of Kagarko Local Government. The suspect was arrested by a team of police officers after the raid of the hotel. After a series of questioning, the suspect confessed to being involved in the crimes of kidnapping and cattle rustling in the state and Niger State.
The police said one Tecno mobile phone was recovered from him.
The statement also noted that the Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, praised the officers for their relentless work. He also charged the public with providing the police with credible information at all times.
