The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of six suspected kidnappers and the recovery of N2.3 million, which has been suspected to be a ransom amount paid by their victims.
The arrest was announced by the Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Abaniwanda Olufemi, on Thursday while pardaing16 suspects for different offences in the state.
The Police commissioner explained that he have been able to achieve a high level of success in the past months; he also disclosed that the police have planned to increase the policing activities in the black spots marked across the whole 25 local government areas of the state.
He noted that the command had acted on credible intelligence and deployed the operatives from the Ebrumede Division. While on patrol, they intercepted the suspect, who was numbered six, inside a tricycle. The suspect had tried to escape after seeing the police officer, but the active officers took to the hills, pursued the suspects, and arrested them. After searching them, the sum of N2,344,000 ransom money and some suspected stolen phones were found on them.
The CP further disclosed that a further investigation into the arrested suspect showed that the phone found on the suspect belonged to the victims while the money was a proceed of ransome paid by the victims too.
In another successful operation, the CP disclosed that the anti-kidnapping squad led a sting operation in the Umunede forest area and rescued two persons who were kidnapped along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
According to him, the operation was carried out based on credible information obtained by the police. According to him, the kidnappers, after seeing the police, abandoned the victims and ran into the bush, leaving the victims.
The CP also announced the arrest of Jammed Abdulahi Shola along the Asaba-Agbor Expressway by the officers on the road who were on stop-and-search duty. He noted that the suspect was driving one driving a green Toyota vehicle.
The suspect was arrested with 320 packs of codeine, 125 sachets of tramadol, and other hard drugs in large quantities after an intensive search by the police.
