The police operatives in Bauch State have announced the arrest of two adult men who have been suspected to be committing the act of armed robbery in the state in the past months.
The arrest was announced on Tuesday by Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson of the state police. He explained that the arrest was made in the state after intensive efforts by the police in the state capital.
He noted that during police interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crimes they were suspected of. They also confessed to being part of crime syndicates that have been involved in stealing various items from homes around the state capital.
According to the statement, the suspects were found with stolen items such as five laptops, four mobile phones, five power banks, one router, six wristwatches, one jam box, and one clipper.
He disclosed that the suspects were arrested in the early hours of Monday, 26 August 2024, by active men of the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS), which Sani Mohammed led. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Yan Committee. According to the police, the arrest signified a strength in the fight against criminality in the Unguwan Jahun area of the Bauchi metropolis; the suspect was intercepted in a moving tricycle in the capital.
The statement further noted that the suspect had attempted to flee from the scene of the arrest, but two of them were apprehended and taken to the command; the persons arrested are Aliyu A. Aliyu, also known as Jagaba, aged 24, and Abdulrahman Ibrahim, also known as Abdun Umma, aged 17. They both hail from the Jahun area of the Bauchi metropolis.
Wakali further disclosed that the police were conducting a deeper investigation, which will lead to the arrest of the remaining individuals in the case. The commissioner of police in the state congratulated the Rapid Response Squad for their activeness in apprehending the suspects and charged the citizens with being active in fighting crime in the state.
