The police in Borno have confirmed the discovery of six projectile grenades allegedly abandoned by terrorists at Ajilari Cross area in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Confirming the discovery on Saturday, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Yusuf Lawal, explained the process that led to the discovery while providing a situation report to the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri, said the projectiles were discovered on Friday.
He noted that immediately, the officer of the command discovered the high-risk component personnel of the Explosive Ordnance Device, Base 13, were deployed to the scene to assess the grenades and discovered that they were manufactured with incendiary chemicals.
Lawal explained that the security agents recovered the explosives after the area was searched thoroughly. He noted that the area was rendered safe while the explosives were recovered by the officer and taken to safety.
The commissioner further informed the press that about 20 individuals were arrested in the Maigigiry metropolis for disturbing the peace and burning tyres on the streets. He noted that the individuals are currently undergoing interrogations in the state command to determine their motive for the disturbance.
The police commissioner also explained that another violent incident happened in Bassam Galomari Village, Gubio II Ward, under Gubio Local Government Area, on the same day, noting that security agencies are probing the reasons behind the violent incident.
He noted that some headers of the Fulani extraction who were grazing on their farm took their cattle into a farm, resulting in a confrontation that resulted in the loss of the hand of the farm owner.
He explained that the incident took a violent turn when the farm owner attempted to evict them from the farm, but the headers resisted, which led to them engaging in a fight that left the man handles.
The commissioner who spoke about the readiness of the security agents noted that the operatives have been placed on high alerts to protect the lives and properties of the public.
He further noted that security operatives had been deployed to investigate the case of the herder and the crop farmer misunderstanding and settle the grievances.
