A kidnap was averted by the Kastina State Police command on Saturday at Magama-Katsina Road after some hoodlums attempted to take citizens hostage.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, announced the success in a Statement on Sunday.
He explained that at about 11 pm on Saturday, the bandits in large numbers with different categories of Arms and ammunition blocked the road around the Kukar Babangida bridge, which is along the Magama-Katsina Road. He noted that the bandits were attacking vehicles on the road; he said a JS car was attacked and set on fire while the bandits took away seven persons from the vehicle.
The statement further confirmed that when a police officer at the Jibia Divisional Headquarters got the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised men to the incident scene. The exercise was conducted alongside the members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and vigilantes in the community.
The statement explained that the combined team of police Katsina State Community Watch Corps and vigilantes followed the criminals, who exchanged several gunbullets; the combined efforts of the security forces were able to overpower the kidnappers, he said. He further noted that the victims were successfully rescued and taken back to the base.
The PPRO also confirmed that one of the victims had sustained a gunshot wound around the shoulder, which was the result of the bandit’s attack. The victim was rushed to the hospital for proper treatment, the police confirmed. The PPRO also confirmed the commands effort to track and arrest the criminals, according to him investigations have started in the case.
The Commissioner of Police Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, psc+, applauded the security forces for their bravery and professionalism in securing the release of the victims. The CP appreciated them for being timely in their response effort. According to the statement, the CP urged the state’s residents to remain calm as the police are doing everything possible to ensure maximum protection of lives and properties in the state.
