The police in Imo state have confirmed that it has repelled an attack from some unknown hoodlums who attempted an attack at the Njaba Divisional Headquarters. The suspects, according to the police, were suspected to be affiliated with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed militia, the Eastern Security Network.
In a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, the attacker had approved the police unit with an SUV, upon their arrival, had lunch and attacked with the aim of bringing the station down.
He noted that police officers who were on standby in response engaged the hoodlums, which resulted in the death of three of the attackers while others who were shot ran into the nearby bushes.
The police disclosed that from the battle, they were able to recover one General Purpose Machine Gun, one AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles — a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza.
The PPRO disclosed that the commissioner of police, alongside other police officers, has begun an investigation into the attack to apprehend the suspects who have fled.
The police commissioner praised the courageous efforts of the operatives. He further assured the public that the command remains committed to enhancing the state’s internal security and will continue to take decisive actions against any threats to public peace.
