The regional authorities have confirmed that two Russian strikes on a hospital in the Ukrainian border city of Sumy have led to the death of seven people. The attack had reportedly happened on Saturday in the city.

The city of Sumy is situated across the border from Russia’s Kursk region, where Kyiv launched a shock offensive on August 6, it was noted that the attack was aimed at creating a “buffer zone” inside Russia.

It was explained that the first attack, which was launched, had killed one person and led to the destruction of several floors of a hospital. The attack, according to a Telegram publication by Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko, led to the evacuation of patients and staff from the hospital; it was explained that when the evacuation was ongoing, the attacker had struck again, which created heavier confusion.

The regional administration disclosed that a total of seven persons were reported dead, while 12 others were said to have sustained a high degree of injury; the government had earlier reported six persons dead.

It was learnt that Russia has been in the act of repeating the attacks on the same target to get a high number of casualties.

The Ukraine’s National Police has noted that the attack, which was conducted with a twin strike, was a cynical attack which led to the death of a policeman while another sustained injuries. The police, on its Telegram post, noted that the two attacks were conducted with a drone, which affected the hospital and some residential buildings in the city.

The post by the Regional prosecutors further explained that the first attack had taken place at about 7.35 am local time (0435 GMT), targeting the hospital where there were 86 patients at the time and 38 staff. He noted that the second strike took place at around 8.25 am (0525 GMT) as rescuers and police were providing assistance and evacuating patients at the scene, prosecutors said.

National Police also posted images of damage to a four-story hospital building with stretchers lying on the ground outside. Cars outside were also damaged. In another revelation, Ukraine’s Suspilne news outlet posted photographs from the scene showing several bodies lying on the pavement and the roof partially ripped off the hospital building.

It was confirmed by Dobrobat, a volunteer group that helps repair damaged homes, the group noted on its facebook page that its volunteers were working at the scene when the second strike came. The group published a video which shows thick smoke, explosions and people rushing to take shelter as sirens wailed.

It was noted that people were seen on the street dead. A volunteer had made the confirmation when a video was made from the street. The volunteer noted that their survival was a miracle as they had gone into the entranceway of a building.

Sumy is the principal city in the region of Sumy. The city has borders with different cities which has borders with numerous Russian Cities, including Kursk.
