The Kwara State Police Command has announced the arrest of seven people in connection with the death of a graduate of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Mojisola Awesu.
The arrest was announced on Friday by the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiyawhen. The suspects were being parred in the police headquarters in the state capital, Ilorin.
The police confirmed that those arrested included the prime suspect, Adebayo Happiness, his parents, Pastor Adebayo Adeniyi and his wife, Mrs Bukola Adeniyi, Miss Kolawola Timileyin, the fried of the diseases she had linked her up with the prime suspect. Other arrested were three workers of the hotel where she was lodged and murdered by the suspect.
The police identified the arrested hotel staff as Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Amina and Bulus Peter.
The police disclosed that after the victim was killed, the suspect had returned to Offa and kept her phone in her wardrobe in the hostel where he stays. The police also disclosed that the suspect’s parents were arrested after a deep investigation into the incident.
The police boss noted that after the son was arrested, the parents of the suspect had tried to temper with the evidence by taking the belongings of the son from the hostel where he stays. The police also disclosed that the mother of the suspect, Mrs Adeniyi Bukola, had gone ahead to remove the sim card from the phone of the victim and keep inside a well close to their residence.
In an earlier claim, the suspect explained that the phone was thrown into the Afelele River, Offa, but the police recovered the phone and sim card from the parents of the suspects.
An investigation by the police showed that the staff of the hotel who was on duty had found the victim dead but decided to dispose of her body at the refuse dump unlawfully.
The police commissioner disclosed that the suspects would be charged in court once the investigations were concluded, and they would face the full wrath of the law.
He assured the resident of the police’s commitment to proceeding lives and properties in the state and ensuring justice is served in all ramifications. He noted that the police will provide fourth information as the investigations keep going.
The victim agreed that 21 was invited to Ilorin, the state capital, by the prime suspect, who is a dismissed student of Summit University, Offa, Adebayo Happiness. She had gone there to act as a girlfriend to the suspect at a party and to be paid N15,000. After attending the party, the suspect never returned as she was allegedly killed on August 9, 2024, in the hotel she was logged.
