Suspect in court for allegation of rape in Lagos

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency o Wednesday confirmed the arraignment of the suspect, who has been accused of aping a 14-year-old girl in Alakuko, Lagos,

The development was confirmed on the agency’s X handle. It was noted that the suspect was charged with different offences which includes defilement, contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015

After today’s initial arraignment, the statement confirmed that the accused had been remanded in custody for 30 days pending the issuance of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The 14-year-old was allegedly rapped by the suspect, who was her landlord’s son, in the Alakuko area of Lagos.

Since the incident was reported, the last state government has taken the case up to ensure justice is served.

The statement read, “Update: The suspect has been arraigned and remanded for 30 days pending the issuance of the DPP’s legal advice.

“He is charged with the offence of defilement, contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, at the Lagos Magisterial District Court. More details to follow.”
