A teenager aged 14 named Malik Kareem has allegedly been killed in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, for ritual purposes during the weekend.
According to an investigation, the incident happened at the Olorisaoko community in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state on Saturday evening, an incident which took several individuals in the community by surprise and threw the community into confusion.
The victim, according to the residents of the community, had recently completed his final exams (West Africa Examination Council) that guaranteed his graduation from secondary school. He attended the Iyana Community Grammar School, Olode, Moniya, Ibadan.
The sources in the community who spoke to newsmen explained that the victim and three of his other friends had met a Muslim preacher in their community to start the process of their participating in a money ritual, which led to his death. It was learnt that the Muslim cleric had taken to the hill since the death of the teenager.
Explain further the source in the community explained that friends of the victim had negotiated with the cleric to kill the 14-year-old boy for their success, but the victim was not aware of their plans.
Another individual connected to the family of the victim explained that the unfortunate incident was reported to him by his brother, who discovered the body and ran to the house; he noted that when he received the information, he rushed to the scene of the incident but discovered the corpse with the head beheaded. He noted that the cleric who had performed the act had run away before his arrival.
He explained that the victim was found with blood split all over the room, which was the house of the cleric; he noted the head of the victim, which was chopped off, was all burnt to ashes before his arrival.
It was also revealed that the boy who had told the cleric to use the victim for the ritual would be using the body to take pap daily.
Another individual who spoke to the press relating to the incident explained that the house of the Muslim cleric was set ablaze by yet-to-be-identified individuals from the community who were provoked by the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, who spoke on the incident, noted that the command had received the information, and some policemen had been deployed to start the investigation immediately; he noted that further information would be provided in due course.
