The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that they have arrested two teenagers who have been alleged to be robing phone stores and taking away over 100 mobile phones and 75 music players, among other items.

The arrest was confirmed by the command spokesperson Ahmed Wakil in a statement released in the state. The PPRO noted that the arrest was carried out after the store owner filed a report of the theft in the state.

He noted that when the police received the report of the criminal act by the teenagers, an investigation was initiated by the command, which led to the arrest of two students of Bakari Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School.

The teenagers, when arrested, told the police that they had taken the key to the store from the hideout, they confessed to committing the crime. The suspects also disclosed to the police that they sold some of the mobile phones for N5,000 and N8,000.

The PPRO noted that when the information was received, the Commissioner of Police directed the ORP team, led by CSP Kim Albert, to investigate the claims. The probe led to the arrest of Hamza Sadiq, a 15-year-old male, and Adamu Ahmadu, a 15-year-old male. Both suspects are students of Bakari Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School.

It was noted that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to having managed to obtain the shop key from where it was stored for safekeeping, timed the shop owner’s departure for the village market, and repeatedly opened the shop door to steal from it during the day.
Wakali noted that the suspect had told the police that they had sold the stolen items randomly at lower prices, ranging from N8,000 to N5,000. According to him, in the confession, they disclosed that they had used the proceeds of the crime to purchase clothes, food, and a smartphone, which was later stolen from one of the suspects as well.

Speaking about the items recovered from the suspects, he stated that 21 mobile phones, five MP4 players, one mobile phone charger, and one metal key were recovered from them.

The police noted that the command was committed to combating crime, and Wakil stated that the suspects would be transferred to a remand home for rehabilitation upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

In another crime in the state on September 27, it was reported that two students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, were arrested for suspected criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.

The police spokesperson noted that the command acted on intelligence from an individual who alerted the Divisional Police Headquarters Yelwa about a group of students assaulting two of their counterparts.
