The police in Lagos State have arraigned three men before the Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for an alleged crime of transfer theft, which was reportedly worth N50 million.
The accused persons include Kehinde Akinkugbe, Tope Salisu, and Isiaka Amusa; they have been charged with different counts of conspiracy, stealing, and malicious damage; the charges were brought before them by the police.
The police prosecutor ASP Aminu Isaac, explained in the court that the accused persons commiitd the offence on August 22, 2024, at at Ajeri Street, Ijede, in Ikorodu, Lagos, at about 2:30 a.m.
He further explained that the suspects had damaged the transformer, which is the pretty of the federal government. According to him, the residents of the community had apprehended the accused persons before bringing the matter to the police for attention.
The prosecutor added that the offences committed are against Sections 411, 287 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
When brought before the court, the accused persons denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu granted the accused persons bail with N1m each. The accused were asked to present two sureties for each defendant, one of whom must own landed property and provide evidence of three years of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
