A moving truck lost control in Imawa town, under Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, and along the Zaria-Kano highway, tragically killing at least 14 worshippers.

According to what has been reported, the incident happened on the highway when the truck collided with the worshippers as they were leaving Juma’at after doing the two rakat Friday prayers.

CC Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident to reporters and stated that multiple other people were injured as well.

The Sector Commander added in a statement provided by his spokeswoman, CRC Abdullahi Labaran, that preliminary indications indicate the truck, registered with registration number MKA 537 XN, lost control and struck pedestrians who had just finished participating in Friday prayers.

He said, “the tragic road traffic crash was reported at 1350hrs. According to preliminary reports, a truck bearing registration number Reg No. MKA 537 XN lost control and collided with pedestrians who had just concluded Friday prayers. This unfortunate collision resulted in the tragic loss of fourteen lives and left several others injured.

“Upon receiving the distress call, FRSC Kano State Command promptly dispatched personnel to the scene, alongside other security agencies, to initiate rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured victims.”

The Sector Commander stated that investigations were still underway to determine the precise events leading up to the incident.

In addition to offering his sympathies to the families of the departed, CC Abdullahi highlights the corps’ dedication to road safety and exhorts all drivers to carefully abide by traffic laws in order to avert such preventable tragedies.

In a related incident, the owner, his child, and construction workers were killed in a structure that was being built in Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government area, Kano.

Eight more people were reportedly hurt in the collapsed structure, including bystanders and construction workers who sought cover inside during the early-morning downpour.

The casualties were reportedly receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital at the moment, according to local sources.
