Two Ekiti Courts arraigns three suspect for stealing and farm destruction

The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arraignment of Mohamadu Bello, a twenty-year-old from the state before the Chief Magistrate’s Court for the alleged destruction of farm produces worth N3.8m belonging to four different individuals in the state.

Inspector Elijah Adejare, the police prosecutor, spoke to the court on Thursday and explained that the accused committed the offences on August 10th in the community called Ido Ile in the state.

In the allegations, the accused, who is a header, had gone on to destroy the farm produce that has been valued at the sum of N300,000. The produce, he said, belongs to one Awiye Olusola. He went on to mention that the defendant had also damaged the farm produce valued at N2.8m belonging to one Oni Samson.

In another destruction by the defendant, the police prosecutor stated that the header destroyed the farm produce of one Igbalajobi Adeyomi, which is valued at N300,000. Also, the header destroyed the farm produce of one Akinola Sunday, which is valued at N400,000.

The prosecutor stated that the offences committed by the defendants are against Sections 363 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. He further asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case and present reliable witnesses.

Mr Adeyemi Egbebi, the accused’s counsel, begged the court to grant his client bail, stating that the client wouldn’t jump bail and would be present in court on the next date.

Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, the Chief Magistrate, granted the accused bail at N80,000 with one surety in like sum; the case was adjourned till September 6 for a hearing.

In another case, the Ekiti State Magistrate Court, Presiding over by Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the bail application of two individuals, Hammed Abdulrasheed, 22, and Abiodun Aluko, 42. The individuals were brought before the court for an alleged offence of stealing a motorbike in the state.

Sergeant Alice Ojo, the police prosecutor, told the court that the accused, Abdurasheed and Aluko, 22 and 42 years old, respectively, committed the said offence on August 6, 2024, in the state capital of Ado Ekiti.

She stated that the accused had allegedly taken a Bajaj motorcycle worth N1.2m and belonged to one Ogundipe Babasanmi. The defendant, Aluko, had a Bajaj bike worth 1.2 million naira. The police prosecutor further mentioned that the offences committed are against Sections 302 and 343 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021

The court requested a short adjournment to help her present witnesses and study the case file.

Meanwhile, the defendant’s counsel, Mr Adeyemi Egbebi, asked the court for bail. He noted that the client won’t be jumping bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the request of the defendant’s counsel and granted the two accused bail at N250,000 with one surety each in like sum. The case was adjourned to September 27 for a hearing.
