The Police in Ekiti State have taken four persons before an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, Ado Ekiti District, for alleged theft of belongings worth N1.98m.
The accused persons were Umar Lawal, 18; Useni Usman, 25; Abbar Senkikami, 25 and Nuru Useni, 25; the defendant were charged for the destruction of some other property which worths N1.5m.
Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the police prosecutor, explained to the court on Tuesday that on September 5 and 7, at about 2:30 a.m., defendants conspired with one another to break into the residence of Pastor Obebe Michael at No. 3 Irona Street in Ado Ekiti.
According to him, the suspects on the same day stole one electrical wire and distribution board worth N500,000, a mattress worth N80,000, a gas cooker with cylinder valued at N450,000, a Hiace fridge valued at N900,000 and iron bar valued N50,000, totalling N1,980,000, the properties according to the police were all taken from on Pastor Obebe Michael.
The prosecutor further noted that the suspects had maliciously damaged the roof ceiling, glass, net, and distribution box with a house wire ring valued at N1.5m the police also noted that the properties all belong to the said pastor.
The prosecutor added that the defendants maliciously damaged Michael’s property, including the roof, ceiling, glass, net, and distribution box, with a house wire ring valued at N1.5m.
The police disclosed that the defendants’ offence is punishable against Sections 421, 322, 302, 354, and 345 of the Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021.
The defendant told the court that they didn’t know anything about the charges and pleaded not guilty to the charges made against them. The counsel to the defendant also urged the court to grant the defendant bail, explaining that the suspects would be present in court on the scheduled date and provide sureties, too.
The defendants were granted bail at the sum of N200,000 with one surety each. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adebayo Adeosun, further adjourned the case till October 15 for a hearing.
