Colin Gray, the father of alleged Georgia school shooter Colt Gray has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the mass shooting in September at Apalachee High School that killed four people on Thursday.
The counsel to Colin Gray who was in court on Thursday morning pleaded not guilty to the crime on behalf of the accused. The court had earlier waved the formal arraignment, he was not present for the hearing on Thursday.
A Barrow County grand jury indicted the older Gray in October on 29 counts, including second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, according to online court records.
Barrow County District Attorney Brad Smith stated that Colin Gray’s charges marked the first time in state history that a parent of a suspect in a school shooting was charged.
The court has gone on to indict the son separately with a 555 count which included four counts of malice murder and four counts of felony murder, in the Sept. 4 shooting at the Winder high school. The younger Gray, who was charged as an adult, waived his formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty in October, court records show.
It was disclosed that two students and two teachers were while nine other people were injured in the attack. The persons killed were identified by the authorities as Christian Angulo, 14; Mason Schermerhorn, 14; Richard Aspinwall, 39; and Cristina Irimie, 53.
Two law enforcement authorities acquainted with the investigation previously told NBC News that Colin Gray offered his son an AR-15-style rifle as a gift after law enforcement officials questioned them in 2023 over reports of online threats to carry out a school shooting.
