Dr Phil McGraw attended Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden event, telling the audience that the former president was “tough as an old Army boot” and refuting the notion that he is a bully.
McGraw interviewed Trump earlier this year for his network Merit Street Media. The former daytime anchor stated that he does not endorse candidates but agreed with the former president’s accusations that his prosecutions were rigged.
At Trump’s rally in Madison Square, McGraw stated he was not there solely to support Donald J. Trump. The show anchor said:
“He doesn’t need me to stand up for him. He is as rugged as an old army boot. He has a lot of adversaries, different organisations that are terrified and among them, they have impeached him and indicted him, sued him, shot him, railroaded him and raided him. And where is he? He remains upright.”
McGraw went on, telling the crowd that the former president was “tough as an old Army boot” and rejecting the notion that he is a bully. McGraw interviewed Trump earlier this year for his network, Merit Street.
“Humans are not flawless. Perfection is not what we aim for,” he said, adding that “We aim for greatness. However, loving someone doesn’t require you to love every aspect of them, and the last thing he needs is some celebrity endorsement.”
For a large portion of his speech, McGraw told the audience that Trump supporters are being intimidated and silenced. “Cancelled, intimidated, marginalised, excluded, or even fired or boycotted,” he claimed.
“It is quite unpleasant when you attack a citizen, use the Internet to your advantage, adopt a mob mentality, and encourage others to band together and launch boycotts,” he said.
“And that is what is taking place in this nation at the moment, and that is unacceptable. There is an imbalance of power there, and it is time for all of us to close ranks,” he continued.
“We must immediately put an end to this. We need to fight back against cancel culture now. The time has come for us to resist intimidation.”
McGraw added that Trump wasn’t a “bully” as “power must be unbalanced and when it isn’t, it’s just called a debate, and he’s just better at it than anybody else.”
He also spoke about the media coverage of other celebrity sponsorships. “I would want to say that both sides are equally represented, but I can assure you that when Beyonce, George Clooney, De Niro, and Rizzo publicly declare their support for Kamala Harris, did you read or hear any criticism of it in the media? No, but observe what transpires when others discover that I came to speak with you tomorrow morning.
“Our government has said we will pass no laws to infringe on our freedoms of religion and speech,” McGraw added in reference to the First Amendment. Despite the fact that it is the law, we are stifling one another. What’s happening? We start restricting each other’s freedom of speech because we have a statute that protects it? Do you mean me? We must not permit that to occur.”
McGraw made reference to Trump’s assertion that an interview question with Kamala Harris was altered by 60 Minutes in order to support her. Claims that they were being dishonest are “false,” according to the show, which stated that the edit was done to cut a part for its runtime
McGraw omitted the fact that Trump has demanded that CBS and other networks that air programming he disapproves of be stripped of their broadcast licence. In a statement earlier this month, FCC chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel stated, “These threats against free speech are serious and should not be ignored.”
