Hollywood legend and actor John Amos of the “Good Times” series has passed away at the age of 84. According to reports, the veteran actor died in his Los Angeles home on August 21.
His son, Kelly Christopher Amos, announced his death on Tuesday, 2 October 2024. He said, “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned.
He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold, and he was loved all over the world. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.” he added.
Belinda Foster, John Amos’ publicist, also confirmed the news of his demise on Tuesday, also stating that he died on August 21; none of them however stated the reason for making the announcement late to the public.
John Amos was famous for his role in the movie “Coming to America” which later became one of the most-watched movies in the 90s. Also, he was featured in “Good Times,” which was America’s first sitcom. He also starred in the “Roots”, another top watched show in 1970.
Following the tremendous success he amassed in “Good Time” as well as “Roots,” John Amos became one of the most prominent superstars in movie shows. He was featured in a plethora of TV shows including “The West Wing,”, “30 Rock,” “The Righteous Gemstones”, “Two and a Half Men” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” among others.
Away from his screen career, he also gained recognition as a football player at the Colorado State University with training camp stints for the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, transitioned into a successful showbiz career.
