Billionaire American artist Taylor Swift has set the internet ablaze with a post endorsing the Democrats’ presidential candidate for the 2024 US presidential election, Kamala Harris.
Swift made the post shortly after the Tuesday night presidential debate between Republican Donald Trump and his counterpart from the Democrat’s tent.
In the lengthy post, which has received mixed reactions on social media, the American pop star declared her support for Harris while describing her as a “steady-handed, gifted leader.”
Breaking her silence on the 2024 elections, Swift said she would vote for Kamala Harris because the incumbent vice president fights for the rights and causes she believes need a warrior to champion them.
The pop singer, whose text was accompanied by a photo of her with a cat, claimed that America would be better off with a leader who is calm and not chaotic. She also signed the post with the name, “Childless Cat Lady”—a reference made to her in 2021 by Ohio Senator, JD Vance, who doubles as Trump’s running mate for the US presidency.
Reacting to Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris, Donald Trump reportedly told journalists that he “was not a Taylor Swift fan” and called her a “very liberal person,” stating that she will “pay the price for it in the marketplace.”
Similarly, SpaceX founder and X CEO, Elon Musk, who is an ardent Trump supporter, took to X in response to Swift’s endorsement of Harris. Forbes’ proclaimed richest man in the world made a jest of the pop star as he wrote, “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
Elon Musk has also received backslash from thousands of x users and Harris supporters, criticising him for his views on the 2024 US presidential election.
Earlier reports stated that Musk had committed to donating $45 million dollars monthly to the trump campaign tent. Although the renowned billionaire debunked the claims, he said he had continually been making “underground” donations in support of Trumps’ election bid for the white house 2024.
Recall that the presidential debate saw both Trump and Harris heighten their bids for the Whitehouse in Pennysylvania last night. However, while Harris spoke calmly, identifying her plans for the country if elected to office, Trump expressed more anger throughout the 90minutes faceoff and barely pin-pointed his plans if elected.
Although he spoke on the surface about ending the Russia-Ukraine war as well as the Israel-Hamas war even before he becomes president, if elected, the former United States President failed to indicate how exactly those plans will be achieved except for the fact that he has a relationship with Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
The question however is: “does Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris make a difference?”
Swift had previously been known for keeping to herself, her political opinions until in 2020 when she announced her support for President Joe Biden and Harris as his vice-president a month before the 2020 election.
Although these have also been criticised, the singer’s fanbase, predominantly young women could result in a big blow.
