Lacey who was struck by the unfortunate toll of her inattentive parents was left to suffer on the leather couch of her parents where she was confided and abandoned. She suffered in the couch for a whooping span of 12 years. It was all torture, starvation and ailment.
At 24 when her health outraged to its apex, her parents, Sheila and Clay, snubbed seeking a supposed medical attention and left Lacey on the couch where she became unattended to the point of death.
The couple who were attached to their fascination bound with vacation, didn’t own up to their parenthood. They pictured Lacey as a burden. Each time they advanced in their vacation, Lacey was left on the couch. They would place towels next to her so they can access easy cleaning of her metabolic wastes. Most of her growth transpired on the couch as she couldn’t move independently. It ranged to the phase where her clothes could no longer fit in with her body, draping off her body.
Her parents vacation happened frequently. She was abandoned, left to starve for weeks. This time, her muscles atrophied, attracting vermin which slowly ate her up from the couch. Mouse and maggots also thrived in their taste, eating her up. Even though she was paralysed, there was sign that she made efforts to evade the torture but due to malnourishment and atrophy in her leg muscles, she failed.
As time spanned, her body fused into the leather couch, covered in her urine and faeces. Also, maggots thrived, living in her hair and body. Her autopsy confirmed that she ate her surroundings to survive before dying on the couch. This was confirmed after her fingernails and faeces were found in her stomach.
Death
On 3rd January, 2022, Sheila and her husband, Clay Fletcher contacted 911, reporting an ill situation of finding their 36-year-old daughter Lacey Ellen Fletcher dead on their sofa. This was followed by an intense approach by the authority.
When the police and investigators arrived at the scene, it was clear that her parents were the key suspects to what is confirmed to be a pivotal view of negligence. Even though Lacey’s Parents lied trying to cover their crimes, they were detained in May 2022 and charged with second degree murder for playing a vital role in the death of Lacey. Before early 2023, they were released on bail only to be re-arrested after being re-indicated by a grand jury in the middle of June 2023.
On 6th February 6 2024, the couple avoided possible mandatory life imprisonment sentences after pleading no contest for the charge to be reduced to lesser conviction of manslaughter. Moreover, on 20th May Sheila and Clay were sentenced to 20 years in prison, attached with consecutive 20-year suspended sentences.
