Chelsea and Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez issued a fresh apology to his teammates upon his return on Monday, when he joined the Chelsea squad in their preseason tour in the United States of America.
It was learnt that upon resumption, the Chelsea midfielder had shown a high level of remorse by apologizing to his teammates physically about the allegation of racist chant by the midfielder on the hills of Argentina’s Copa America triumph.
In response to the allegation, some Chelsea players unfollowed the midfielders on social media, while several comments were made about the actions with rumours of division in the club’s dressing room.
After the allegation, Enzo Fernandez issued a public apology to his teammates earlier with the club coach Enzo Maresca, stating that the midfielder would have an easy reunion with the teams upon resumption. He further suggested the team was not divided in any way.
The 23-year-old who returned to the team yesterday after offering a public apology trained and had lunch with their teammates has further pledged to join the club in educating others through a meaningful donation to the club’s anti-discrimination charity.
The reaction from Chelsea has been positive after the midfielder’s series of apologies. It has been reported from the club’s point of view that the case has been regarded as closed, with no further action expected from the player.
The midfielder is expected to make his first appearance for the new coach, Enzo Maresca, when the club continues preparing for the upcoming season in a preseason game against Club America on Wednesday night.
Since the appointment of the present coach, the team has failed to find cohesion in the recent two performances, resulting in a draw and a loss between Wrexham and Celtic, respectively. The club will face Manchester City and Real Madrid before returning to Stamford Bridge to face Inter in their final friendly before the Premier League campaign.
