Nigeria has officially wrapped up their run in the 2025 AFCON after securing the bronze medal.
A decisive last penalty kick by Ademola Lookman secured them the bronze medal, ending their journey in the AFCON 2025. While the players celebrated along with the thriller, it resorts back to what had evolved to be a dramatic entertaining tournament for Nigeria.
Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali served as the key pinnacle for the victory after saving two crucial penalties, leaving Alex Iwobi and Lookman open to bury the game. Perhaps the Nigerian goalkeeper astonishingly saved Mohammed Salah and Man City Wonder Kid, Omah Marmoush Penalties, proving his qualities again.
The Super Eagles started off the group stage with fire, triumphing over Tanzania in a 2-1 victory with crucial goals from Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman. They would deploy yet another dominance defeating Tunisia in a 3-2 entertaining display, automatically qualifying for the knockout phase. Another head to head clash foresaw Nigeria brutally destabilizing Uganda after bagging a 3-1 victory, finishing up the group stage perfectly. They would head into the knockout phase, defeating Zimbabwe and Algeria to secure their semi-final spot, where they lost to Morroco in a penalty shootout.
While the dramatic shootout linked to Chukwueze nonchalant approach cost Nigeria, they redeemed themselves, defeating Egypt in the same penalty shootout, clinching their deserved Bronze medal. With all records still linked to Nigerian players, they are still recognised as the highest goal scoring nation in the tournament.
Nigeria has added yet another bronze to their cabinet, making a total of 9 bronze medals after defeating Eqypt in 4-2 penalty shootout.
