Despite the club’s intentions to sell their striker Victor Osimhen this summer, Napoli may have to reduce their asking price once more as no clubs have yet to make a move for the Nigerian.
Osimhen has been Napoli’s best scorer for the last two seasons, including the Scudetto-winning 2022–23 campaign, but Napoli is ready to cash in on him this summer.
The 25-year-old signed a new contract with Napoli in December that will expire in the summer of 2026. The release clause is thought to be worth between €120 million and €130 million.
Napoli had been anticipating proposals from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain; however, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, no official approaches have yet been made.
That might be a long-term issue for Napoli and their new manager, Antonio Conte, who may be counting on Osimhen’s departure to attract a number of other transfer targets this summer, such as Romelu Lukaku, a striker owned by Chelsea.
Given that Osimhen’s new contract pays him approximately €10 million a season, Napoli will find it difficult to pay him in the long run, especially if they plan to rebuild under Conte this summer.
Club President Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to be awaiting word from Osimhen’s representatives as well as sporting director Giovanni Manna before deciding what to do next. La Gazzetta speculates that Napoli might need to consider reducing their asking price if they hope to complete a deal this summer.
According to earlier rumors, Napoli has already lowered Osimhen’s asking price from the original €120 million to €130 million release clause to €100 million. But despite this cutback, no proposals have come through.
According to some Italian rumors, the Serie A team would consent to a player-swap agreement with Manchester United, allowing Mason Greenwood to join the former Serie A winners while Osimhen would go the other way.
Despite the fact that the rape accusations against Greenwood were dropped last year, Manchester United is eager to trade the player in the summer. The 22-year-old winger has been linked to numerous teams, including Juventus, Lazio, and Napoli, after performing admirably while on loan at Spanish La Liga team Getafe, where he won the team’s Player of the Season title.
The Italian powerhouses may need to lower their expectations even further in order for Napoli to consent to Osimhen’s move to the Premier League.
