The Oyo State Government have received financial sponsorship from the World Bank totaling N3.5 billion to renovate 105 public primary schools that have been selected for the project.
Seyi Makinde, the state governor, made revelations of the information on Friday in Ibadan as he officially handed checks to representatives of a few of the beneficiary institutions.
Makinde said that the funding was meant for the purpose of reconstruction of primary schools with crucial care, the governor was represented by his deputy, Mr. Bayo Lawal.
The governor stated that the construction would start at the same time in each of the 105 schools chosen from the state’s three senatorial districts.
He cautioned the people in charge of the exercise to make sure that all the projects followed the due guidrlines rather than to perform subpar work.
The governor stated that, delivering high quality work would enable the projects’ sole ideas to be realized and would also open the public’s eye to recognize and appreciate the government’s efforts in the educational sector.
“A huge amount of money is being put into this project, and the beneficiaries must pay attention to what is being done in their respective schools.
“The standard must be in accordance with prescriptions, so that our children will take maximum advantage of the facilities government is putting in place,” the governor stated.
According to Mr. Suraj Tiamiyu,who is the Special Advisor to the Governor on Education Intervention, the 105 authorized public primary schools,especially the most of which are located in rural areas should be renovated within six weeks.
According to Tiamiyu, the renovations would include drilling boreholes and building toilets, among other amenities that would make the learning environment more accommodating to students.
He continued by saying that the exercise will be appropriately be supervised to ensure that the timeline and standards are met.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the funding support is part of the Better Education Service Delivery for All – Additional Funding World Bank Project.
The project is a type of educational support from the World Bank with the Global Partnership for Education, with the intention of improving literacy in beneficiary states and providing more equal access for children who are not in school.
The funding was given to Oyo State as well as two other states in Nigeria, namely, Adamawa and Katsina. Its goal is to increase accountability for basic educational outcomes in Nigeria.
