The controversy surrounding the death of Nigeria’s Afrobeat star, Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad is far from over as the family has decided to conduct a fresh autopsy to determine the death of the young star in Lagos Nigeria.
Recall that the singer died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 in Lagos Nigeria with the star buried less than twenty-four hours after his death which has sparked controversy on social media.
In a statement on Tuesday by a member of the legal team of the family, Monisola Odumosu explained that the family had on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20 conduct a fresh autopsy to determine the death of the star which has been a controversy since September 2023.
Detailing the plans of the family, the legal team member explained that the family had planned to conduct toxicology and histology tests on the necessary samples already obtained if the post-mortem procedure failed to reveal the cause of death.
“The second autopsy as requested by the Aloba family and ordered by the Magistrate of the Coroner Court, Ms. T.A. Shotobi, was conducted on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, 2024. This autopsy is a two-part exercise, with the first part now completed.
“If the cause of death cannot be determined from this initial examination, the second part will proceed, involving a toxicology and histology test on the necessary samples already obtained,” the statement reads in part.
According to him the father of Mohbad and two separate pathologists appointed by him and Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi were all witnesses to the test carried out on July 19 and 20th.
“This comprehensive procedure, conducted last Friday, was witnessed only by Mr Joseph Aloba, the forensic pathologist appointed by Mr. Joseph Aloba and his team, legal representatives of both Mr. Joseph Aloba and a pathologist appointed by Wunmi Aloba to observe the procedure,”
An earlier autopsy result by the police and the Lagos state government stated that there was no conclusive reason for the death of the singer but seems the star had died from reactions to drugs.
The report stated that “It is noteworthy that the body neither had an autopsy nor embalmed before interment on the second day. Following the Order for Exhumation, the body was exhumed on 21/09/2023 (eight days after the burial)”
The result further mentioned that the “Autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs. Aside from the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross finding could be attributed to death.
“Against this background, samples were taken for toxicology. This was to determine if there was any anaphylactic reaction, substance abuse, overdose or common household poisoning. Toxicology revealed positive findings of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine. However, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range. The other analytics were unremarkable.
“Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. In the light of the preceding, the cause of death could not be ascertained. However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered given the absence of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.” the report revealed.
