It has been disclosed that the popular snack, which smiles back at all, has announced that it has changed its name, which takes effect from Wednesday, October 23rd 2024. The former has been an iconic name which is recognised by almost all individuals in the stores.

The old name, which was Goldfish Crackers, will now be changed to “Chilean Sea Bass” It was noted that the change was aimed at expanding the audience of the product to the hungry adults in society.

The Pepperidge Farm snack will still feature its baked cheddar crackers, formed in the shape of a fish with a smile drawn on the side. However, the goal of the rebrand is to show consumers that just because the snack comes in a fun shape, it doesn’t mean adults can’t enjoy it too.

the vice president of Goldfish, while speaking to CNN noted that it was known to the company that Godlish was instrumental to the poaching of lunch boxes in the country but it was realised that it was loved by all categories of persons despite the age which inspired the name change to a fun grown-up a name to appeal different persons.

It was noted that Chilean Sea Bass” labelled Goldfish bags will only be available to purchase online in two packs for $7.38 USD. The name change won’t last forever, as the company said the limited-edition item is only available until October 30.

The news of the name change was also shared by the parent company Campbell Soup which owned Goldfish. The news of the change was made public on its Instagram handle, and reactions from the customers show that they are in the middle of accepting the name change.

Some of the customers who supported the change of the name explained that the change has made them feel more sophisticated. A consumer noted that finally, the fanciest goldfish for the biggest fan, while another stated Adult sophistication at its finest,

Some other persons noted that the name of the product was not part of the reason they avoided it. They explained no one complained about the name before it was changed. A customer who was not pleased with the change commented and asked what this was. Another noted that no one was complaining about the product.

Another commenter noted that when the name changes the brain changes while the taste changes too. The customer noted that it was better to stick with the old name and branding. However, one individual noted that the new name sounded more like a real fish rather than a decent snack. The commenter explained that I probably wouldn’t want to eat a Chilean sea bass snack. I’m fine and proud to eat goldfish

The change of name by the brand was not happening for the first time; the name was changed in 2022 in a move to appeal to adults. Announced Pepperidge Farm noted that it is a new line to appeal to larger snack Goldfish Mega Bites.

The change was announced in a press release by the company. It was explained that Mega Bites – which were available in two flavours, sharp cheddar and cheddar jalapeño – were 50 per cent larger than regular Goldfish. Pepperidge Farm called the cracker a bigger and bolder “reboot” of the classic Goldfish that kids have enjoyed for over six decades.

Janda Lukin, chief marketing officer of Campbell Snacks, said at the time that it was the first time Goldfish had created a snacking experience, particularly with Grown-up tastes in mind.

She added the company was at the start of a new chapter for the brand and is expanding its offerings and appeal to all age groups in the college dorm, snacking at your desk, wherever that is these days while remaining a snack for all families.  She further noted that the company was excited to keep creating bold and playful snacks and experiences.
